Hair transplantation is the only medical solution for the permanent treatment of Androgenetic Alopecia - the most common type of male hair loss.
FOLLICULAR UNIT TRANSPLANTATION (STRIP)
Μodern hair transplantation (implantation) techniques have the potential to achieve a natural aesthetic result as long as they are performed by experienced doctors specialized in hair transplantation who possess the necessary skills and experience.
It important here to describe the natural outgrowth phase of hair:
Hair grows in groups of 1 to 4 which are usually called hair follicles. In the case of androgenetic alopecia, hair follicles in the front and upper part of the scalp are susceptible to the presence of androgen and more particularly of the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a testosterone derivative.
Testosterone, through the action of the enzyme 5-alpha reductase, is converted to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which in turn is bound by the receptors of the depended hair follicles and leads to their gradual weakening. As a result, they produce weaker hair that gradually thins out and eventually cause hair fall or permanent hair loss.
However, hair follicles in the back and side of the head (the parietal and occipital scalp) show a genetic resistance to androgens which makes them unaffected by DHT, and therefore unaffected by hair loss.
Part of these follicles (which make the fixed hair growth area of the scalp) is utilized in hair transplantation, as it is transferred to cover the needs of thinning areas.
HAIR TRANSPLANTATION is the procedure of collecting and transplanting hair follicles from the fixed hair area (the donor site) to the thinning area (recipient area).
The follicles of the donor Fixed-hair area, maintain and transfer their genetic properties to the thinning area so that after transplantation, the hair transplanted is not affected by hair loss and continues its normal growth. The new hair outgrows on the basis of the natural outgrowth model, giving a natural and aesthetic result and a very satisfactory density.
The new hair starts growing immediately after implantation and appears on average after 2-4 months following the hair transplantation. The hair gradually grows and a complete result is achieved after 10 to 12 months from the surgery.
Hair transplanted does not require any special care from the remaining hair, excluding the first postprocedural days where attention to shampooing is necessary. The new hair is susceptible to any kind of styling process (dying, highlights, etc.) and as long as it comes from the same person, it does not stand out from the rest of the hair.
Our Medical Team includes two specialized nurses.
How long does hair transplantation last?
The duration of a hair transplantation depends on the extent of the session (number of hair follicles) and the hair transplantation method used. The usual duration of the operation (performed under local anesthesia) is only a few hours.
When can we return to our usual activities after HAIR TRANSPLANTATION?
In a short time (within days) you will be able to return to your activities depending also on how you feel maybe and even in the next day after surgery. Return to daily activities is always determined in consultation with the doctor and varies from person to person as it depends on the nature of the activities of each individual and the type of hair transplantation method performed.
Technique of surgical intervention with FUE method
With a special tool, one by one hair is removed from the back of the scalp (graft) without thereby requiring any thin skin fiber (grafts).
Then very small holes are left which gradually heal within a few days.
We always try not to remove the entire hair follicle (graft) leaving little of the hair bulb in order to grow back the hair on the back of the head, and so we don't have any thinning at the points where grafts were taken.
The technique of this particular method requires real skill as should be done in accordance to the direction of hair growth and the appropriate removal of the hair follicle. Applying the FUE method requires more time and a larger number of medical staff to separate the hair follicles.
Many only manage to collect very few grafts whereas an experienced doctor collects the same number using the Strip method.
Hair transplantation STRIP-FUE
The result of hair transplantation is unique to each person because it is formed on the basis of the specific characteristics and needs of the person.
In ELITE PLASTIC SURGERY both hair transplantation methods are performed. The hair transplantatiodoctors, nurses and paramedics are skilled in the most advanced techniques of the global field of hair transplantation and apply each technique or a combination of techniques that are deemed suitable for each individual.
